Unravelling the Mysteries of Classification
 
This workshop provides an insight into classification and attempts to explain some of the processes, policies and procedures that operate at national and international level. Pan disabilities, sport specific and disability specific systems are explained. SDS to IPC with a few extras thrown in!

Coaching Footballers with Disabilities
Basic knowledge of football

Open to all interested parties aged 16 and over, experienced or otherwise, who work with or have an interest in working with footballers with disabilities. Using practical and workshop teaching methods the course is designed to give coaches an insight into how best to deliver coaching sessions to groups of players with a wide range abilities and disabilities.

Wheelchair Curling: working with wheelchair beginners

This sports specific course will provide you with an excellent introduction to the sport of wheelchair curling. A combination of theory and practical sessions provide an insight into the key elements and safety considerations of wheelchair curling. The course provides an understanding of wheelchair curling by exploring a variety of elements including, communication, hand and cue delivery, and movement on the ice.

The Boccia Leaders Award will provide coaches, teachers and volunteers with the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities to introduce the game to all children, young people and individuals with an interest in sport. A mixture of theory and practice, the course will provide an overview of the structure, the rules and the practices.

Coaching Disabled Performers
Should have attended the How to Coach Disabled People in Sport
 
This workshop provides an excellent follow on from the HCDPS workshop, developing coaching knowledge and skills to allow coaches and volunteers to include disabled performers through inclusive and separate coaching sessions. The course also outlines methods of adapting equipment, identifying appropriate safety and medical considerations to meet the needs of the performers.

Disability Inclusion Training

This is an excellent introductory workshop into disability and sport in Scotland. It provides an opportunity to recognise the influence perceptions and experience have on interactions and our expectations of others.
Identify appropriate disability-specific terminology, etiquette and communication.
Articulate the principles of the DDA/ DDO and know who to contact for further information
Outline the barriers which may need to be challenged in order to create opportunity.
Identify the participation opportunities within disability sport.
Recognise how to influence (even change) practices and facilitate inclusion.

Coaching Athletes with a Disability (Scottish Athletics Course)

These workshops have been designed for coaches interested or already working with athletes with a disability and will be delivered by leading Scottish Disability Sport/UKA Coaches Janice Eaglesham and Ian Mirfin. The workshops will cover aspects of disability awareness, classification for competition, competition structures and opportunities for practical ‘hands on’ coaching. There will also be opportunities to meet and speak with elite athletes with a disability and their coaches in a question and answer session.

Archery Leader Course (Scottish Archery Associationon behalf of the UK governing body the “Grand National Archery Society”)                 17+                
The course will involve safety, range set-up, different forms of archery, shooting styles (barebow, recurve), teaching/improving performance selection, care and maintenance of equipment.
Leaders teach beginners to shoot, mainly in activity holiday centres, sports centres, educational establishments, youth organisations and clubs/opportunities for people with a disability
Previous experience of archery is not a pre-requisite.

Carpet Bowls Workshop

This workshop offers candidates an introduction to carpet bowls for players with physical, sensory or learning disabilities.
The workshop will cover carpet bowls classification, rules of the sport, delivery styles and positions (sitted and standing) and specific techniques adopted by current Scottish players.
There will be both theoretical and practical sessions with candidates having the opportunity to play the game.
Time permitting, an introduction to drills and officiating will be included.

This workshop provides an introduction to strength and conditioning for individuals working with athletes/players with a disability.  Activities and exercises will be reviewed and adaptations considered during the session, in order to allow athletes/players to do their sport.

Coaching Disabled Swimmers
(This is a new Scottish swimming CPD opportunity)
 
This Course is recommended for UKCC Level 1, 2 & 3 Coaches and provides a theoretical basis for coaches to better understand the needs of disabled swimmers, through highlighting ways that coaching practices can be adapted and outlining the disability swimmer pathway to ensure disabled swimmers can reach their potential whilst training as part of a mainstream swimming club.

Teaching Swimming to Disabled Children
(This is a new Scottish swimming CPD opportunity)
 
This Course is recommended for UKCC Level 1 & 2 teachers and is designed to provide them with the confidence to work with swimmers with disabilities.
Theoretical Knowledge – 3 hours of theory based learning to give you the knowledge to work with swimmers with a range of physical disabilities.
Practical Experience – One hour practical base giving hands on experience to gain confidence in including swimmers with a disability.
