How did you become involved in athletics?
I played a lot of sport at school and was encouraged to try everything by my PE teacher. I used to play football quite a lot and although I competed for Scotland I changed to athletics about 3 years ago. I started training seriously as it offered me more of a challenge and I really liked running.
In football I captained the Scottish Under 19 team but gaining selection for the UK Athletics Talent Development programme has opened doors for me and I travel quite a lot now to big athletics events. Getting selected to compete in the Anniversary Games at the Olympic Park in 2015 was the biggest achievement to date.
I have been to Italy and Sweden for international experience already this year and I am now focussing on the British and Scottish Championships for improving my times for possible selection for the World Championships in Doha in October. There are another couple of raced planned in England. I want to be selected for Rio 2016 and to compete in Tokyo 2020 in the Paralympic Games. I also want to keep improving and learning my discipline.
One piece of advice for an aspiring athlete?
Never give up on any sport until you find the one that suits you best.
