Fife Athlete Picks up Second Place in Haddington

Derek Rae from Kirkcaldy and Fife AC is currently listed three on the International Paralympic Committee World Para Athletics Official World Rankings for the T46 class. Derek has come a long way in the last few years as an international sportsman and it was the time he set in London earlier this year (2.32.24) that has taken him to a top three position.

Last year as part of his Rio preparations coach Ron Morrison identified the Haddington Half Marathon as a key race for Derek. It is considered a very tough route and an appropriate challenge for the leading athletes in the country. Derek finished in second position overall, ran 70 second faster than last year and was only 30 seconds outside his PB for the half marathon.

Derek finished in 72.25 and was pleased with his performance. Training has been rigorous but Derek is never less than 100% committed to every training session set by his coach. The hard work of the last few months is really paying off.
